14,000 join 'Walk 4 Wellness' for disabled children

More than 14,000 UAE residents have already registered for the third Lulu Walk 4 Wellness campaign, which is being held in partnership with the Rashid Pediatric Centre for Disabled, the UAE Red Crescent, Prime Hospital and Dubai Municipality.

Announcing details of the major Walkathon on March 13, 2014, organisers of the walkathon said Lulu Group will donate Dh10 on behalf of every person who participate in the 3 kilometers long walk along the Zabeel Park area of Dubai.

The objective of third Lulu Walk 4 Wellness 2015 is to create awareness about Diabetes and support the Special Needs Community, the organisers said. Out of 14000 people from across the UAE who have already registered for the walkathon, majority are from Dubai and Northern Emirates (10,000)), followed by 3000 participants from Abu Dhabi and 1000 from Al Ain. Last year around 10,000 people participated in the Walkathon last year and this year the number is expected to go up. In 2014, Lulu donated AED 10 per participant to the Dubai Autism Center as part of the campaign.
