Abu Dhabi continued to suffer from deadly accidents involving children falling from their apartments, with 14 kids aged 2-10 years killed in such mishaps in two years.

Figures published by the Abu Dhabi police's magazine '999' showed the children died after plunging from high-rises due to negligence of families.

The report said most of such accidents occurred during winter, when the weather becomes moderate and residents open their flat windows and balconies.

"Most of those accidents during 2013-2014 were a result of negligence by the children's parents," the report said.

It stressed that tenants and landlords must work to improve safety at their apartments, including fixing steel nets on windows with openings not exceeding 10 cm each.

It also advised parents to keep furniture away from windows so their children will not climb up and risk falling off.
