15 men arrested in Sharjah stabbing case

Sharjah Police have arrested about 15 men believed to have been involved in the stabbing of an Indian trader and three others in a crowded market last night.

Around 15 men had allegedly ganged up to attack a trader selling electronic goods following a dispute on Saturday night.

Mohammed Sharief died on the spot while three other injured were admitted to the Kuwaiti Hospital. One of the injured who was stabbed on his stomach has since been discharged from hospital.

According to him, the other injured men are stable.

Meanwhile, according to sources within the Al Ghurair mall in Rolla where the incident occurred, there were efforts made to alert the cops even before the incident occured.

"They were armed with sticks and swords and were seen loitering around the area at around 6.30pm. Some people who anticipated trouble tried to call the police immediately. However, we are not sure if they did manage to get through. By the time the police arrived, the trader was already dead," said the source.

Indian shopkeeper stabbed to death in Sharjah gang attack; 3 hurt

A gang in Sharjah stabbed an Indian shopkeeper to death, while three others working in the shop suffered various injuries in an incident last night.

According to shopkeepers and people in the area who were witness to the incident, a gang of five to six men with swords and other weapons attacked the shopkeeper inside the Al Ghurair market in Rolla.

The victim, Sharief, 34, and his colleagues, hail from Kasargod in Kerala, India, and were closing the shop after work at 10.30pm when they were attacked.

There was no comment from the Sharjah Police at the time of filing this report.

“Two of the men were involved in a fight at the shop, following a dispute on Thursday. In order to settle scores, the men returned with three others and attacked the staff,” a shopkeeper next door told this website.

According to him, the shop, which sells electronics goods, was being permanently closed down and a clearance sale was on.

“On Thursday, they tried to take away some stuff without paying, resulting in the argument. The men returned on Saturday around 6.30pm and were loitering around the place, before staging the attack around 10.30pm,” he added.

“Police arrived and admitted the injured men to hospital,” said another source.
