152 driving licences were suspended by Al Ain traffic police in March.

Maj. Salah Abdullah Humairi, head of traffic and patrols in the city, said the main reason was the drivers crossing the upper limit of 24 black points. The most serious offences were trucks overtaking dangerously and racing cars on the roads.

Maj. Humairi said suspension of driving licence for a certain period is a deterrent measure to prevent the driver from harming himself and others.

In the first instance, the licence is withdrawn for three months, then for six month and then for a year before it is finally cancelled.

People who drive while their licence is suspended can be fined and legal action taken against them, Maj. Humairi added.
