The youths at the age of 16 eligible for granting driving licenses said Major-General Mohammad Saif Al Zaffin, Chairman of the Federal Traffic Council (FTC) Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police FOR Operations reported Emarat Al Youm newspaper.

He added that the youths at the age of 16 years more mature now than 10 years ago, and can drive a vehicle in an appropriate manner, and there is no justification for not granting them the license.

He said on the sidelines of the meeting of the FTC the day before yesterday, where he pointed out that he called earlier to give youths at age 17, a driving license.

He added that but even at the age of 16 they deserve giving them driving licenses.

He asserted that there are important social dimensions to modify license age.

he added that families resorted to assign foreign drivers while there are   youths in the family their ages 16 or 17 years old, but they couldn’t  drive families cars because they don’t have driving license despite  they will be more secure for his family.

He stressed that driving a motorcycle is more dangerous than driving a car, because they do not contain adequate safety factors, though licensed to youth at the age of 17 years.

Maj. Gen. Al Zaffin expressed confidence in this age group, especially as the majority of traffic accidents committed by persons aged 24 to 35 years, while less in more recent age.

It is worth mentioning that Al Zaffin was previously proposed to reduce the driving license age from 18 to 17, according to strict requirements, including the existence of a person with young driver while driving, to be conditional and the license will be temporary with certain obligations.

The FTC had discussed the need to add requirements for granting driving licenses, requiring driver's knowledge of security and safety procedures for dealing with car fires.
