The UAE Interior Ministry has arrested 170 people in Sharjah for violating the country’s residency rules.

100 people were held for hawking on the street, 53 for entering the country illegally and 17 for working for employers other than their sponsors.

Brigadier Dr Abdullah Ali bin Sahoo, Director of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Sharjah, said the arrests were made during a two-week campaign after expiry of the deadline for illegal residents to leave the country without paying any fine.

He also urged the public not to buy anything, particularly food products, from street vendors as they may either be stolen or may cause ailments.
