2,200 Toyota cars recalled in UAE

Models between 2002 and 2009 affected

Al Futtaim Motors has recalled about 2,200 cars - models between 2002 and 2009 - for speed clutch pedal maintenance.

The local recall follows the withdrawal of simialr models globally, Dr Hachim Al Nuaimi, Director, Department of Consumer Protection, Ministry of Economy, was quoted as saying by 'Al Ittihad' newspaper.

Globally, Toyota has recalled about two million vehicles due to the gas pedal sticking issue.

Dr Nuaimi said: "Local consumers can access alternative cars until the problem is fixed."

The ministry gets weekly reports from the company about the names of clients and the number of cars repaired, he said and added that clients ouldn't hesitate in calling the ministry in case they face any difficulties in the maintenance issue.

Toyota dealers in the Emirates have explained their responsibility to the ministry, he said and added that if the defect were to be repeated it would be repaired free of charge.

Dr Nuaimi said as per the law consumers have the right to recover the price of defective cars; have them repaired or replaced in case of manufacturing defects.
