2 die in five weekend accidents in Dubai

Man run over, woman dies in collision

 Five road accidents took place in Dubai over the weekend, resulting in the death of a man and a woman and moderate to serious injuries to several people.

The man was run over by a vehicle while the woman died in a crash after a vehicle jumped a red light.

Brigadier Mohammed Saif Al Zafeen, Director General Directorate of Traffic, said the first incident happened at 8.30pm on Friday when a Hummer jumped a red light on Tripoli Street in  Warqa area and collided with a Toyota Corolla, killing a woman and seriously injuring three people inside a vehicle.

Major Zafeen said jumping red lights caused 224 accidents last year, resulting in seven deaths and injuries to 312 people.

He said a Philippine national was seriously injured in an accident at 10pm on Friday in Qusais.

Another accident happed at 11pm on the same day on Sheikh Rashid Road, killing one person.

On Saturday, an accident took place at 7pm near Ibn Battuta Mall, slightly injuring an Asian woman.

On the same day at 8.30pm, another accident happened in a side street in Mezhir, causing minor injury to an Asian woman.

    Jumping RED light requires extremely severe punishment - licence confiscated for life, car impounded, heavy fines, etc. etc. This is serious.
