5 more Mers cases tested negative in UAE

LATEST UPDATE: The Health Authority - Abu Dhabi (Haad) has announced that five more of the individuals in isolation in hospital with Mers Coronavirus (Mers-CoV) have now tested negative, and will be leaving hospital soon. With this, the number of individuals who have tested negative for the Mers Coronavirus rises to 10.

Haad said, "These 5 cases were confirmed positive through routine screening of contacts, and were kept in isolation at hospitals as a precautionary measure. They were able to clear the virus within ten to fourteen days themselves without any treatment."

"It is expected that the other individuals with positive MERS Coronavirus currently in isolation in hospitals will likewise soon test negative and be able to go home. They are being tested daily to check on their positive status," Haad added.

HAAD confirmed that it is coordinating with the Ministry of Health (MoH) and other Authorities in the country, and has taken all necessary measures as per international standards and recommendations from the World Health Organisation (WHO).

The MoH stated that the WHO confirmed that the virus is not a concern for public health at the moment, and that the current situation does not require a travel ban to any country in the world, screenings at different ports, or any restrictions on trade.

The MoH confirmed that it is monitoring the situation closely to ensure the health and safety of everyone.

2 more Mers cases in UAE test negative

Abu Dhabi (Haad) has announced that two more cases in isolation in hospital with Mers Coronavirus (Mers CoV), have tested negative for the virus, and will be discharged from hospital soon.

Haad said that "five cases were confirmed positive through routine screening of contacts, were kept in isolation at hospitals as a precautionary measure. They were able to clear the virus within 10 days themselves without any treatment."

It is expected that the other individuals with positive Mers Coronavirus currently in isolation in hospitals will likewise soon test negative and be able to go home. They are being tested daily to check on their positive status. 

Haad also announced one new individual with Mers-CoV. "The new case was admitted to hospital on  April 16 with fever, cough and diarrhoea, and was found to be positive for Mers-CoV.  The medical status of the patient is stable and d receiving appropriate medical care. The patient is known to have kidney disease on dialysis, and had just returned from a visit to Saudi Arabia, where he had received three sessions of dialysis."

13 cases of C-virus reported in Saudi

Dr. Abdullah Al Rabiah, Saudi Health Minister, has announced that 13 new cases of Coronavirus have been reported, seven in Jeddah,  four in Riyadh, one in Madinah and one in Najran.

The Saudi Press Agency quoted Dr. Al Rabiah as saying that this brings the total number of Coronavirus cases to 257, adding that the ministry is making every effort to contain the virus. He confirmed the Health Ministry's readiness for Hajj and Umrah seasons, using its extensive experience in crowd health issues.

The Health Authority Abu Dhabi (Haad) has announced 12 new cases for Coronavirus (Mers-CoV), who are well, but incidentally found to be positive for Mers-CoV during routine screenings for contacts.

The new positive Mers Coronavirus cases are expected to clear the virus within 10-14 days with no treatment.

They are in hospital isolation and as such are not causing any risk to the public or other patients.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) and Haad are dealing with the situation with full transparency to ensure the public is aware of the current situation.

Haad confirmed that the current situation is not a public health concern and that it is coordinating with the Ministry of Health (MOH) and other authorities in the country, and has taken all necessary measures as per international standards and recommendations from the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Haad advises the public to follow these tips to help prevent respiratory illnesses:

-       Wash your hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds, and help young children do the same.

-       If soap and water are not available, use hand sanitizer.

-       Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze then throw the tissue in the trash.

-       Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

-       Avoid close contact with people with fever or flu-like illnesses

Haad stressed the need to follow information released about the illness by the Ministry of Health and health authorities.

Cases of Mers have been reported by the WHO from 2012.

The MOH stated that the WHO confirmed the virus is not a concern for public health at the moment, and that the current situation does not require a travel ban to any country in the world, screenings at different ports, or any restrictions on trade.

The MOH confirmed that it is monitoring the situation closely to ensure the health and safety of everyone.

The MOH and Health Authorities along with the WHO are working closely with all government and health authorities to understand the risks of this virus and the way it spreads between people.

Saudi Arabia announces two deaths due to Mers

Saudi Arabia today reported two deaths of the Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus (Mers-CoV), bringing the death toll to 76 since the virus appeared in September 2012.

Two foreigners died of Mers-CoV in the Saudi city of Jeddah, the health ministry said on Saturday.

The ministry said seven more people were infected with the respiratory virus in Jeddah city, including two foreign medics both aged 54.

The latest deaths of two foreigners, aged 64-year-old and 44-year-old, bring to 76 the overall number of people to have died of Mers-CoV in Saudi Arabia, from a total of 231 infections.
