2 women killed while crossing highway

Two women died on the spot and one was critically injured in a horrific accident in front of Ansar Mall on Friday night.

The women, who were later identified as being Ethiopian, were hit by a car while they were crossing the road. They were hit by a car headed to Dubai from Sharjah, according to eyewitness accounts.

“It was really tragic. Body parts were scattered across the road, several meters away from the accident spot,” one eyewitness told this website.

The accident, which occurred at around 10pm on Friday, caused heavy jam in the area, which is notorious for pedestrian deaths.

“They were in the mall and died while crossing,” said a source from Ansar Mall.

Sharjah Police control room later confirmed the incident to the press.

Ansar Mall area on the Al Ithihad Road, is a hotspot for pedestrians to cross the busy highway, risking their lives. There is no pedestrian overbridge linking the Al Nahda area where Ansar Mall is, with the Al Tawaaun area on the other side of the road. Crossing the road here is illegal and several deaths have already been reported in the past.
