As many as 20 people were injured in an accident on Sheikh Zayed Road in Ajman after a vehicle driven by an Arab national hit the pavement and then crashed into the bus on the other side of the road.

Ajman Police said two of the injured were in serious condition after the accident which happened on Wednesday evening.

Police said the accident happened after the Arab national lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speed and lack of attention, hitting the pavement and then crashing into the bus carrying workers on the other side of the road.

Due to the collision, bus driver got stuck in the vehicle and the police had to cut parts of the bus to get him out.

Major Saif Al Falasi, Head of Traffic and Patrols Department at Ajman Police, said the Operations Room received a communication at 6pm on Wednesday about an accident on Sheikh Zayed Road in Hamedia area in which 20 people were injured.

The car and bus drivers were in serious condition while the other 18 workers sustained medium injuries.

He said 13 injured were transferred to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Ajman and six were taken to Al Qassimi and Kuwaiti hospitals in Sharjah while two patients were transferred to Sheikh Khalifa Hospital in Umm Al Quwain.

Al Falasi said the accident caused a heavy traffic jam because parts of the bus had to be cut to pull driver out of the vehicle.
