Dubai Municipality’s ‘Your Child in Gold’ weight-loss campaign has stepped into its second phase, with participants signing up for numerous health activities and diet plans in a bid to win big.

The total number of residents signing up for the campaign touched a staggering 28,000 after the 10-day onsite registration, which ended on July 24.

The second phase of the weight-loss campaign will involve “extensive programmes involving counselling on food-intake and exercise plans by experts through the week,” said Ismail Al Banna, DM’s director of corporate marketing and relations.

“These activities will help participant lose weight in a healthy way,” he added.

There will be free medical check-ups held for all registered participants on Mondays and Wednesdays, between 6pm and 9pm, at Al Mamzar and Al Khawaneej jogging track, Safa Park, Zabeel Park and Al Barsha Park.

On Fridays, fitness experts will hold special workout sessions between 8pm and 9pm.

Many sporting activities and tips on healthy eating and exercise regiments will also be charted out in consultation with the experts every Thursday, added Ismail. “At the Creek Park on August 14, Zabeel Park on August 21, Safa Park on August 28 and Mamzar Beach Park on September 4 , from 5pm to 8pm.”

He advised participants to bring along their registration cards to each fitness consultations and get their participation stamped to be entitled to win during many raffle draws scheduled during the event.

Talking to Emirates24|7 earlier, Walid Al Shaibani, head of DM club and coordinator of the campaign, said the campaign is aimed at educating families about the ill-effects of obesity and to encourage them to lead a healthy life.

Unlike last year, where participants won a gram of gold for every kilo lost over the minimum 2-kilo-mark, this time the focus shifts to families.

“If you register with your children, then each family member will get two grams of gold for every kilo lost. But children have to lose the weight for the rest of the family to win more gold,” said Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director-General of Dubai Municipality, during the launch.

Parents who sign up their children for the campaign are advised to ensure they follow the healthy weight-loss plan, as chalked by dieticians, and to include appropriate exercise plans. Experts will also help mark the ideal weight and height for children as per their age. Special corners for children will be set up at the five parks, and parents are encouraged to encourage children to take up a sport of choice.

The final weigh-in will be between September 10 and 15.
