Dubai Police control room recorded many fog-related accidents since 3am till 12 noon on Tiesday.

While about 289 accidents were reported to Dubai Police, the control room handled more than 2,200 calls from Dubai residents over the same period of time.

The accidents that ranged from light, medium and severe, occurred in different parts of Dubai.

Brigadier Omar Abdul Aziz Al Shamsi, Director of the Command and Control Center at the General Directorate of Operations at Dubai Police, appealed to all motorists to pay extra attention when out on the road, especially during foggy and unstable weather.

Low visibility during rainy and foggy conditions leads to a high number of accidents and motorists should refrain from driving carelessly and recklessly.

Brigadier Al Shamsi advised drivers to ensure that the windshield and glass windows of their vehicles are clean. Lamps and lighting should also be in top working condition before taking the car out on the streets.

He also said that motorists shjould not forget the basic rules of driving. They should leave enough distance between vehicles and those that go in front of them, reducing speed to be able to stand within the visibility front, commitment lane, and not change lanes, except in cases of necessity.

Brigadier Al Shamsi also warned drivers to keep themselves abreast of the weather conditions before they hit the road so they can avoid roads that tend to clog. Plus, motorists are advised to head out to work well before time.
