Hidden police cameras caught 3,389 cars exceeding the 140 kph speed limit on Abu Dhabi’s motorways in June as roads got busy during the peak summer holiday season, police figures showed on Tuesday.

The vehicles were caught on external roads leading to Ghuweifat border strip by the newly-introduced Qannas (hunter) speed cameras, which are advanced and tiny devices that could be concealed inside police cars or in grass on roads.

A police officer warned motorists to stick to the 140 kph limit, saying no grace speed is given on those roads.

“We call upon you not to exceed that limit because there is no grace speed on those roads….the maximum speed is 140 kph and cars exceeding that range will be caught by the camera,” Major Bakheet Al Manhali, head of the motorways division in Abu Dhabi police, said, quoted by Emirat Alyoum newspaper.
