Abu Dhabi police arrested three Asian men targeting bank clients in a theft operation and using the same old technique by lying to the victims about a fault in their cars, newspapers reported on Sunday.

Police, acting after receiving repeated reports on the thefts, nabbed the three in separate locations of the capital and one of them used a knife to resist arrest.

CID chief Colonel Rashid Burasheed said the three stalked people who went into banks and waited for them outside.

“They told a woman that her car tyre is flat. When she stepped out to check it, one of them opened the other door and tried to steal her money and other items. But our men caught him,” he said, quoted by Emarat Al Youm daily.

“The two others were arrested in separate places near banks and one of them tried to use a knife he had with him to resist arrest.”
