Dubai Traffic Police said that 30 serious accidents have occurred on Dubai roads during the first two weeks of Ramadan, Emarat Al Youm newspaper reported.

According to the statistics, four people lost their lives while 20 were injured in these accidents.

Meanwhile, 7,728 minor incidents were reported over the same period.

Dubai Police has taken measures during the last 10 days of Ramadan and Eid to reduce the number of accidents.

Colonel Saif Mohair Al Mazroui, the acting Director of Dubai Traffic Police said: “The department will intensify traffic patrols in the congested areas as well as mosques, malls and markets.”

He added, “The time period before Iftar usually witnesses an increase in minor incidents because of people’s urgency to reach their destination to break their fast.”

He pointed out that these incidents exacerbate congestion.

He added the department will distribute greeting cards to the public from the morning of the first day of Eid.

Police patrols will focus on the protection of the community more than levying fines, except in cases of rash and reckless driving.
