4,639 food units in Dubai violated rules

Dubai Municipality found 4,639 foodstuff establishments violating rules in the first nine months of this year.

Sultan Ali Taher, Head of Inspection of Food Control Department, Dubai Municipality, said this period also witnessed a decline of about 10 per cent in the imposition of fines against the violating establishment compared to the same period of the previous year.

He said that the municipality inspectors carried out 12,286 field visits during the period to restaurants, cafeterias, coffee shops, hotels, groceries and other food joints.

They graded 51 establishments 'excellent'; 2,881 as 'very good'; 8,082 'good'; 1,231 outlets 'acceptable'; and 41 were classified under low average.

The last category comprise about nine per cent of the total number of establishments.

The municipality shut down 88 outlets temporarily.
