Four European tourists lost their way while on top of a mountain in Ras Al Khaimah and had to spend the night there before they were rescued by the emirate’s airborne police and medical services, a newspaper reported on Tuesday.

Police helicopters scanned Jabr Mountain most of the night on Sunday after receiving a call from a tourist saying he and his friends had lost their way and could not return to their cars at the bottom of the mountain.

Airborne police chief Lt Colonel Saeed Al Yamahi said police helicopters located the four, including two men and two women, through satellite and was in touch with them that night.

He said the rescue operation was postponed till the next morning because it was difficult to reach that rugged area at night.

Emarat Al Youm daily quoted Capitan Tariq Al Sharhan, first aid and rescue operations director at RAK police, as saying the four were picked on Monday morning and were taken back to their cars safely.

“We remained in touch with them through the night to reassure them. They told us they had no health problems and could wait till the morning. They were taken back to their cars and they were all in good health,” he said.
