4 UAE residents die in traffic mishaps during Eid

At least five UAE residents died in traffic over the Eid weekend, and four residents are seriously injured.

On Sunday (August 19) at 17.30pm a driver fatally crashed his vehicle into a wall on Al Abeer Road, nearby Al Aweer, confirmed Dubai Traffic Police. The vehicle, a Toyota Haylox, was driven in high speed.

In Oman two UAE-residents lost their lives and one was seriously injured in a car accident near Wadi Waghala in Thumrait, en route to Salalah.

The deceased are known to be an Indian mother, Deepa Shaji and her son Mohammad Sageer. The younger child Diyaar Shaji survived the accident and is admitted to hospital.

On Saturday (August 18) at 10am two cars crashed in Hatta, reported Dubai Traffic Police. The accident left three people seriously injured.

This morning an accident in Mirdif was reported on Twitter. The tweet said: “Big accident in Mirdif outside Sharooq.  Minibus turned over heading to Emirates Road. Details of the accidents have not yet been confirmed.

Meanwhile, an European  motorist died on the spot when his car rammed into a bridge on Emirates Road in Umm Al Quwain on Monday, reported Al Bayan.

Saeed Obaid Bin Eran, Director of Traffic and Patrols leadership Police Umm Al Quwain, said that the driver was heading towards Ras Al Khaimah from Dubai when the mishap occured.  Speeding and lack of concentration is resulted in the mishap, he added.

Police patrol on internal roads is also intensified during Eid holidays to ensure safety and security of travellers.

The body of the motorist, believed to be in his 40s, has been transferred to UAQ Hospital.

Pakistani dies in Al Ain villa fire

One Pakistani man died in a residential fire in Al Ain, where an entire villa went up to flames yesterday.

The  29-year-old Pakistani man, identified as Farooq Jamshin Khan, suffocated as he made his way through the flames to gather some of his belongings, an Middle East Chandrika reported.

When he arrived at the emergency unit of Al Jimi Hospital Al Ain he was already dead, confirms the hospital.

According to the report about 30 people including Pakistanis, Sudanis, Indians, Egyptians and Bangladeshis lived in the villa.

Although no injuries have been reported, many seem to have lost valuables such as passports, money and clothes in addition to vehicles parked nearby.

Abu Dhabi Civil Defence was seen fighting the fire using helicopters for two hours.

The cause of the blaze is yet unknown.
