40 expat students to witness India’s Republic Day Parade 2014

Forty students from various Indian Schools in the UAE and other GCC countries will be selected through a competition to attend the 64th Republic Day Celebrations in New Delhi India on January 26, 2014.

Entry for the Proud to be an Indian programme is open to Indian origin students residing in the Gulf region and studying in any of the Indian Schools, said Frank P Thomas, Director and Business Head of Asianet News Channel, which is promoting the programme.

“Students of Grade 7 to 12 are eligible to register online, participate in the written examination and 20 teams of two students will be selected to visit New Delhi.

India celebrates January 26 as its Republic Day, in commemoration of the day when the Indian Constitution came into effect in 1950, three years after gaining independence from the British colonial rule.

In addition to the parade, the students will also visit various historically important locations and landmarks, like Jalian Wala Baugh, where hundreds of Indian freedom fighters died in a major tragedy during the British rule, Indian border regions and various Indian villages in Amritsar in Punjab.
