5,000 porn CDs found in Sharjah room

The Sharjah Police CID have arrested a Bangladeshi for promoting and trafficking in indecent films, after a raid uncovered over 5,000 such CDs in his room.

The Sharjah police, acting on a tip-off about a man who had turned his room at his accommodation in Industrial Area No 6, into a factory for storing and copying pornographic movies onto CDs, formed a team to investigate.

The CID team managed to identify and locate the accused and after taking necessary legal procedures, raided the room arrested the suspect red-handed.

Over 5,000 pornographic CDs ready to be sold were found. A number of devices used to store and copy movies were also seized.

The accused admitted to the crime on being questioned and had been referred to the Public Prosecution in Sharjah.

The suspect allegedly targeted industrial areas in Sharjah where a large number of bachelors lived to sell his CDs.

This is the second such operation that has led to the arrest of persons involved in producing and distributing pornographic movies in the emirate.

On June 16, CID of the Sharjah Police also arrested three Asians on charges of producing, promoting and selling pornographic movies and content containing pornography.

The accused, using computer technology, created porn CDs in large quantities, and then promoted and sold them in many areas in Sharjah, especially targeting neighbourhoods where singles reside.

A CID team then conducted a raid and found computers, CD-ROMS, printers and copiers used to duplicate and create the porn films.

Investigations revealed that the accused created as many as 15,000 copies of per day.

The Sharjah Police have called on the public to cooperate to inform them about any similar activities in their neighbourhoods.
