The UAE has not been impacted by the 5.8 magnitude earthquake that struck off the coast of Oman in the early hours of Monday morning.

The quake, which had its epicentre in the Gulf of Aden, hit approximately 120km south of Salalah, Oman.

Speaking to Emirates 24|7, a spokesperson from the UAE’s National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology, said: “We can confirm the earthquake struck in the morning hour off the coasts of Yemen and Oman. However, the UAE has not been impacted by this quake, nor felt any tremors.”

As per the United States Geological Survey, the epicentre of the quake was 9.7km under the sea.

On April 16, the UAE experienced tremors that ranged between 4 and 5 on the Richter scale following a 7.8 magnitude earthquake that hit the Iran-Pakistan border, sending many panicked residents to flee their buildings.

That was the second incident in the same month, with an earlier jolt on April 9, as a 6.3 magnitude earthquake struck Southern Iran.

At the time NCMS had said: “The tremors were felt in Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah because of its epicentre, which was 500km from Abu Dhabi.”

The epicentre was near Bushehr in Iran.
