Dubai Shopping Festival (DSF) and the Dubai Gold and Jewllery Group (DGIG) announced the gold and diamond promotion during the 21st edition of the annual shopping carnival, DSF, in which 100 winners will take home 56kgs of gold during 32 days of the promotion.

Announcing details of the Dh7 million gold prize bonanza, Laila Mohammed Suhail, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Dubai Festivals and Retail Establishment, an agency under the Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) and Tawhid Abndullah, Chairman, Dubai Gold & Jewllery Group said this year, every day, three winners will get1.75 kgs of gold based on raffle of coupons that customers obtain for purchasing every Dh500 worth of gold and diamonds.

Last year, shoppers won 100kg of gold and 40 carats of diamonds at the Gold and Jewellery Mega Raffle and became part of the Celebration Chain, the world’s longest hand made gold chain.

DGJG has nearly 600 members who will take part in the annual DSF promotions.

Over the last two deacades of DSF gold promotions, a whopping 845 kilograms of gold has been given away as prize.

Unlike the previous years when the main winners took more gold, the 2016 edition of DSF gold promotion will spread the win among three daily winners, the first prize winner will get 1 kg of gold, followed by half a kilogram by the second winner and a quarter kilogram by the third winner in the daily draws held at 9 pm every day.

“For the first time, three lucky shoppers will be rewarded at the daily draws that will be held at 9 pm. The first prize winner will get 1 kg of gold, the second lucky winner will get half kilogram while the third daily winner will get to take home a quarter kilogram of gold prize. In all, there will be 100 lucky winners over the 32 days of DSF celebrations receiving gold prizes worth Dh 7 million,” the officials announced in a press conference at the Conrad Hotel, Dubai.

Despite lowering oil price and the overall economic situation, Tawhid Abdulla aired a spirt of optimism that is the hall mark of Dubai, and said jewllers are enthusiastically participating this year too in the gold promotions. Adding the additional support from the Dubai  Government in promoting the DSF festival and gold promotion, Abdulla said the overall prize to be won during the 21st DSF amounts to between Dh 12.5 million to Dh 13 million. While the fact that gold price has come down substantially will improve sales, he said the yellow metal will always shine in the commodity market, and the DSF promiton is not aimed at the gold investors, but consumer jewllers.  He added in response to questions that Asians constitute about 50 per cent of gold buyers in Dubai (Indians, Pakistanis, Bangladeshi and Sri Lankans) followed by 25 cent sales by GCC and UAE Arabs and 25 per cent by visiting tourists. “We are optimistic about gold sales during the 21st DSF promotions too as many jellwers have participated in  the promitions under the banner of DGIG.”

Customers who purchase gold jewllery worth Dh 500 will get one raffle coupon and customers who purchase pearl or diamond jewllery worth Dh 500 will get two raffle coupons  to take part in the daily raffle draws. Raffle coupons will be provided by all the participating outlets of the Groups promotions. Laila Mohammed Suhail expressed gratitude for the continued support received from the Dubai Gold  and Jewllery Group, which every year comes up with attractive promotions to fuerrther enhance DSF’s image as the world’s best shopping experience. “At the heart of the DSF is its ability to influence and create an impact on shoppers by providing them a memorable and rewarding shopping experienffe. Over the past two decades, our mega raffles like this gold promotion have helped change the lives of thousands of residents and visitors and this in turn has made DSF a magnet for visitors from all over  the world, who make the trip to Dubai during this time of the year just to win a prize of their lifetime,” she said, adding that key economic sectors of Dubai witness considerable growth during the season.

“Ever since the first edition of DSF, the relationship between the Group and the DSF organizing committee has been growing in strength and in 2016, the relationship will cross decades of fruitfull association. Over the past many yeaars we have been complementing  the DSF initiatives. I am happy to state that over the past twenty years of DSF, we have given away over 843 kg of gold.  Tomy Joseph, General Manager, DGIG and Chandu Siroya, Vice Chairma, DGIG and other board members and directors were present in the press meeting.
