57-car pile-up: Al Ain Road to get more radars

Police is considering more traffic control measures such as installing radars at locations of major and dangerous accidents on Abu Dhabi-Al Ain highway, following 57-car pile-up on Thursday morning which resulted in injuries to 14 motorists.

The Al Ain Traffic Section at the Abu Dhabi Police Traffic and Patrols Directorate met to discuss plans to intensify campaigns to increase educational awareness levels for the public.

Police said accident was due to low visibility during thick fog. Accident involved vehicles from both sides of the road near the Abu Samrah area. Around 39 cars were involved in accidents on their way from Abu Dhabi to Al Ain while 18 were going in the opposite direction.

Major Saif Muhammed Naeif Al Ameri, Acting Chief of Al Ain Traffic and Patrols Section at the Traffic and Patrols Directorate, said: “The Al Ain Traffic Section and its different branches are discharging their duties to the fullest, whether through direct traffic control on roads or through traffic education at all times and various events, which helps achieve the Abu Dhabi Police’s strategy of making roads safer.”

He said more cooperation will take place between the Accidents Branch and Radar Units in order to set up radars at the locations of major accidents, especially dangerous ones, in an effort to make roads safer.

Major Saif Al Ameri warned that all drivers must abide by the traffic rules that regulate the use of roads for both motorists and pedestrians in order to save the lives of people on the roads. Field awareness campaigns and educational campaigns through media outlets will be intensified in order to increase educational awareness levels for the public in the upcoming stage.

Police discussed the major causes of traffic accidents and their resulting minor and major injuries as well as deaths. The meeting that took place at the Section Headquarters was chaired by Major Saif Al Ameri in the presence of all branch managers.
