6 cars collide on Sheikh Zayed Road

Six cars collided on Skeikh Zayed Road in Dubai at about 8am on Monday morning.

Though traffic piled up for sometime, nobody was hurt in the mishap.

The cars collided at the exit towards Al Quoz on Skeikh Zayed Road, reported Dubai Traffic Police, who added there were no injuries.

Dubai Traffic Police acted swiftly and removed the cars from the road allowing office-goers reach their destinations without delay.

Weather circumstances are unlikely to have played a role, because at this point of the day there was no water on the surface of the road, said Omran Abdullah, Dubai Traffic Police. 

Two Emiratis killed in head-on crash

Two Emirati men were killed when their cars collided with each other on Emirates road in Ras Al Khaimah after one of them violated the traffic law and went in the wrong direction, a newspaper reported on Sunday.

A 23-year-old driver, identified as GB, was driving on that road towards Dubai on Saturday when he was caught off guard by a four wheel vehicle coming his way in the wrong direction, the Arabic language daily Alittihad said.

The collision resulted in the immediate death of GB while the other car’s driver, 32, was rushed to hospital after suffering from serious injuries.

“He was taken to Saqr Hospital but died later. Both cars were also badly damaged in the accident,” it said, quoting Colonel Abdullah Mankhas, director of the RAK traffic police department.

15 cars caught doing over 200kmph

Traffic police speed cameras caught 15 cars doing more than 200 km per hour in just 20 days on the motorways linking Abu Dhabi to Dubai and the eastern oasis town of Al Ain, a police officer was reported on Saturday as saying.

The speeding cars were caught during March 1-20 by the advanced mobile camera, known as Qannas (sniper), which was introduced by the traffic police recently to back up fixed speed cameras deployed in and outside the capital.

“They exceeded the speed limit in a very dangerous way,” said Major Mohsen Al Minhali, head of the external roads section in Abu Dhabi’s traffic police.

He said the vehicles were impounded for one month while the drivers were fined Dh2,000 each and had 12 black points added to their file.

Speeding Emirati motorcyclist dies in fatal accident

A young Emirati lost his life as he was speeding on his bike in Sharjah over the weekend.

The 24-year-old lost control of his motorcycle as he was zipping across Salim bin Ali Al Owais street and heading towards Ali bin Hamad Al Shamsi.

He died on the spot before ambulances arrived.

The Department of Traffic and Patrols, Sharjah Police, called on motorcyclists to wear helmets and protection gears and respect speed limits. (By Mohammed Al Sadafy)
