Getting a job at Dubai Duty Free isn’t an easy task and the reasons behind this are happy employees at work who don’t want to leave and a company that promotes its people internally with only very few jobs left for the general public to take up.

Enjoying the status of being one of the premier “employers of choice” in the UAE, the company boasts that it received more than 68,000 unsolicited job applications last year but only two entry-level positions were recruited externally.

And the big reason behind this is the company’s long standing policy of “promotion from within”, giving push to its employees to grow within the organization.

“The company has a long standing policy of ‘promotion from within’, resulting in only two entry-level positions being recruited for externally – sales assistant in the retail operations area and stores assistant in the warehouse environment,” it says of last year’s recruitment scene.

“All other back-office support functions (marketing, HR, finance, purchasing, IT, secretarial, etc.) and supervisory positions are recruited and developed internally, while the vast majority of managerial level vacancies are also filled from inside the organisation. This policy provides for the maximum possible career growth and development opportunities for Dubai Duty Free staff and is one of the reasons why the company has an enviable staff turnover ratio and high levels of employee loyalty and commitment,” the company adds further.

The biggest hurdle is getting an entry into the company but once you are a part of it, you can apply through the internal selection process to a wide variety of career opportunities in operational areas such as customer service, visual display and merchandising, security, and brand-specific beauty advisors and dedicated merchandising specialists.

Similarly, ongoing opportunities exist in the back office support functions mentioned above, as well as promotion to supervisory and management level positions.

Besides, there is an internal advancement policy in place, supported by training and development infrastructure, including an e-Learning facility where 30 different training programmes are available.

Even though there are not very many opportunities available, you could try your luck at Careers UAE, the recruitment fair that starts tomorrow. Officials from Dubai Duty Free will be present at the event to meet and assist jobseekers. However, this is only for UAE nationals.

For the general public, you can spot some vacancies on popular job portals in the country and if you have the right talent, you could well find your way to the company.
