Sharjah Police sent out an alert and rushed patrols to Al Wahda bridge after security cameras spotted a 7-year-old boy walking on his own after missing his school bus.

A shocked driver who saw the boy on the packed bridge during the rush morning hours phoned the police, prompting them to deploy their cameras to trace the kid.

Police were also shocked when they saw the boy hurrying on the bridge with his school bag, thinking he would reach school before class time.

“A police patrol arrived just in time to catch the boy and move him to a safe place near the bridge…the cops then got the boy’s name and address before taking him to his school,” the Arabic language daily Emarat Al Youm said.

Sharjah police chief Major-General Mohammed Al Hadidi, who watched the rescue operation, called on families and school supervisors to be more alert and ensure the safety of their school children.
