Nearly 700 karate practitioners from 5 years to 55 years will participate in the 12th annual JKS National Karate Championship 2016.

The winners will get a 10-day paid trip to Japan, the home of karate.

Announcing details of the 12th edition of JKS Karate Championship to be held on May 6, 2016, Abdullah Abubnakr Zarra Al Yassi, a member of the UAE Karate Federation and President, JKS UAE, said the annual competition is an occasion in which members from about 55 karate clubs will come to fight for the prize.

The karate championship competition will be held in multiple formats.

“Karate is quite popular in the UAE and various communities, especially Emirati youngsters, are active in the game,” said Al Yassi.

“Anyone aged five and above can practice the game, which has many advantages. I started learning karate at the age of 6 and am continuing the game for nearly 30 years. More than 30 per cent students in various schools are active in the game and the championship is an annual occasion for them to prove their skills.”

JKS Center (Japan Karate Shotokai) is organising the competition in the same format of World Karate Championships.

There are several clubs under the UAE Karate Federation in different emirates. In addition, there are private clubs too.

“Age is not a barrier for karate training. We have students who are four or five years old. We want to bring all the Karate clubs in the UAE under one roof and the championship is held in association with the UAE Karate Federation, Benchmark Media and the approval of the concerned UAE Ministries.”
