A total of 483 tuberculosis (TB) and 343 malaria cases were detected among expatriates last year at the Preventive Medicine Centers and hospitals, which are under the UAE Ministry of Health, according to a recent report released by the UAE Ministry of Health (MoH).

According to the ministry, those who tested positive for such contagious diseases did not pass the fitness test, and thus did not get employment in the country.

According to last year’s statistics, MoH laboratories conducted 7.702 million tests for 1.557 million patients.

The statistics also showed that of the 22,383 people who underwent the parasitic exam, 4,525 people tested positive, and these included both the contagious and non-contagious parasitic illnesses.

The different types of tests carried  out included 625,056 AIDS tests, 182,223 Hepatitis tests, and 227,674 other tests.

The ministry added that these figures do not include medical institutions that are under the Abu Dhabi Health Authority, Dubai Health Authority and the private medical hospitals and centres.
