9 footbridges being built in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Municipality (ADM) has completed 61 per cent of construction works of nine temporary footbridges on the main streets in a number of areas within and outside Abu Dhabi Island.
 
In a statement, Abdullah Saeed Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Municipal Infrastructure and Assets Sector, said: "This project reflects the efforts made by the municipality in collaboration with Abu Dhabi Police, Department of Transport and Urban Planning Council to enhance the standards of traffic safety for pedestrians and cars alike. It also coincides with the urban, economic expansion together with the emergence of many economic and commercial areas and markets, which required the provision of alternatives and safe pathways for pedestrians to avoid accidents and ensure smooth vehicular flow in a safe traffic environment."

These footbridges are located in high-traffic and high-pedestrian areas. They comprise the construction of a footbridge at the main bus station across Al Muroor Street, and another footbridge facing Carrefour across the Airport Street The third footbridge is being constructed across Musaffah Street to serve the pedestrian at workers' accommodation where completion has reached  67 per cent.

The fourth footbridge is opposite to Dalma Mall across Musaffah Street and the fifth one is in Bahia across Dubai Road. 48 per cent of construction works were completed in the sixth footgbridge located at Al Shahama across Dubai Road, while 50 per cent of works were completed in the seventh footbridge opposite to the University of Abu Dhabi across Al Ain Road. The eighth footbridge is located at Bani Yas across Al Ain Road and the ninth footbridge is opposite to Mushrif Mall across Airport Street.

Total cost of these footbridges is Dh35.2 million.
