A coffee shop in Abu Dhabi decided to join five-star hotels in introducing a valet service to its customers. But instead of attracting more clients, the service seems disheartening.

While such services at hotels include parking and delivering the vehicle, it did not include all such facilities at the café at the sprawling seaside Marina Mall in the capital.

“The board at the café says that the valet service does not include delivering the car to the customer,” Emarat Alyoum daily said. “It also says the company is not responsible for traffic fines against that car in case there is no parking space.”

Man held for stealing from 250 cars

Abu Dhabi police arrested a Pakistani man for stealing nearly 250 cars by smashing their glass and pinching valuable items.

Police said they arrested the 26-year-old man after reports by many car owners that their car glass had been broken and some items had been taken.

Police said the man, identified as ASH, confessed to stealing credit cards, mobile phones, laptops and other costly items by smashing the back triangular window glass, using a special tool to avert causing any noise.

“He was doing this expertly…he said he stole those cars in various areas because he needed money,” Alkhaleej daily said, quoting a security source.

Over 427,000 drivers have black points

More than 427,000 drivers across the UAE have been given black points by the traffic police since the system was introduced a few years ago and nearly 2.422 of them piled up the maximum limit of 24 points, according to the Interior Ministry.

The penalty was a result of many traffic offences including jumping the red light, failure to use the seat belt while driving, speeding in dangerous areas, and reckless driving.

The figures showed 427,627 drivers in the UAE’s seven emirates have been given black points, including around 294,000 who got up to four points.

Nearly 129,000 motorists were given 5-12 points while 1,043 drivers piled up between 13 and 18 points and 106 drivers had between 19 and 23 points.

“We have found that the black point system is very effective in deterring reckless drivers,” said Brigadier Gaith Al Zaabi, traffic coordination chief at the Ministry.

He said some drivers had gradually piled up 24 black points while others got them for committing one offence such as driving under the influence of alcohol or driving a vehicle without number plates.

According to the semi official daily Alittihad drivers with 24 black points have their driving licences seized for three months and their vehicles
impounded. Motorists repeating those offences get harsher penalties.
