An Abu Dhabi-based expatriate construction worker, who was about to be sacked, stabbed himself and then accused his boss of trying to kill him after learning he was behind that decision, a newspaper said on Tuesday.

The worker, his family’s sole supporter, had gone to see his direct supervisor just before going to bed to ask him to speak to the chief engineer to cancel the decision to sack him.

But the supervisor scoffed at him and said he deserved to be fired after accusing him of lacking skills in his job.

“The worker knew then that his supervisor was behind the decision to sack him. He threatened to stab him, but the supervisor continued to sneer at him,” the Arabic language daily Al Khaleej said.

“He then stabbed himself and ran through the workers’ living quarters screaming that the supervisor tried to kill him.

“During the trial after recovering in hospital, the worker was sentenced to three months in prison and ordered to be deported, after one worker testified that he saw him stabbing himself.”
