Absconding worker dies after late-night party

An absconding labourer’s body has been founded buried at the construction site in Al Dhaid area, police said.

The Indian labourer died after a late-night party and was buried there at the construction site by his friends.

Sharjah Police said the man had absconded from his employer in 2008 and was working for the company illegally at a daily wage of Dh45 for several months.

The labourer died in mysterious circumstances. His co-workers buried his body in a hole near the site to hide the corpse but it was found later after a tip-off.

Six workers have been arrested who confirmed that the body found there was of the worker who worked for the same company a few months ago and lived with them at the company's headquarters.

They told police that they had a late-night party on Friday and consumed alcohol. After that the deceased went to the generator room and fell asleep. Next morning they found him dead in the room due to exposure to asphyxia and smoke from the generator.

Workers buried the body immediately fearing exposing themselves to legal matters.

Al Dhaid Police Station received a tip-off from a person about traces of blood on the hole near the construction site. Security team went to the site and removed the body.

The investigation is still going on with the detainees to make sure the truth is told before the case is forwarded to the public prosecution.

Brigadier Abdullah Mubarak, Deputy Commander in Chief of Sharjah Police, said this issue reveals the dangers of hiring absconders and fugitives. He asked companies not to hire absconders and illegal residents.
