Abu Dhabi announces two new cases of Mers

Nine countries in the Middle East have had confirmed cases while 13 other states, now including the Philippines.

The Health Authority - Abu Dhabi, HAAD, has announced two new cases of Coronavirus (MERS-CoV), which are reported as stable and receiving the necessary medical care.

The authority said that the two cases show no symptoms, highlighting that they confirmed their infection with the virus through active investigation, noting that the cases have been isolated in hospitals as a precautionary measure. The authority is also actively checking the health status of contacts of the two cases. Based on previous similar cases, HAAD expects that the two patients will recover from the virus automatically over 10-14 days.

The Health Authority, in coordination with the Ministry of Health, health authorities and competent departments, has taken all necessary precautionary measures as per international standards and recommendations from the World Health Organisation.

The Ministry of Health said the epidemiological investigation centres in the UAE were working round the clock to early report any detection of virus,, confirming that the health system is active in the country and the ministry is following the situation closely to ensure the health and safety of everyone.
