Abu Dhabi launches paid parking by mobile phone

Abu Dhabi car drivers who run out of coins or are not registered with the government’s electronic parking services can now park their vehicles using their mobile phones.

The new service, introduced by Mawaqif of the Department of Transport, allows car owners to send a text to the number 3009 detailing their vehicle registration number, the parking area and the number of hours needed.

Once the text is received by Mawaqif, clients will receive a reply message including the number of their electronic card to be used for parking. Fees will be deducted from the customer’s mobile phone credit whether by Etisalat or Du.

In a statement, Mawaqif said drivers of cars registered in otheremirates can log on its website (www.mpark.mawaqif.ae) to register and get paid parking facilities.

Mawaqif has set up more than 80,0000 parking spaces since it was launched four years ago to regulate parking services and end anarchy on the emirate’s streets.
