Abu Dhabi's first water park with 43 rides by year-end

Yas Waterworld Abu Dhabi, a theme park with 43 rides, will be officially opened in the fourth quarter 2012, according to Aldar Properties. 

In the progress report for second quarter, the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange-listed property developer  said on site construction has progressed rapidly. 

“All ride installations are now complete with good progress being made on themed rockworks and external facades. Work on the internal finishes, fitout and landscaping is in full swing. 

“Mechanical and electrical installations are progressing well and preparations have commenced for energisation and testing and commissioning.” 

Once complete, this outdoor waterpark situated next to the Ferrari World Abu Dhabi theme park will boast 43 rides, slides and attractions – many of which are regional firsts, it claimed. 

Spread across more than 15 hectares, the theme park will be operated by Farah Leisure. 

The developer will open its Yas Mall, a super regional mall of more than 235,000 sqm, showcasing over 450 individual  International and local brands, in the fourth quarter 2013. 

Anchored by Geant Hypermarket, the mall is also have IKEA store — largest in the region along with the largest Cheesecake Factory diner in the region. 

The mall site has 29 tower cranes erected to aid construction and site logistics. Piling work for the different buildings is now complete, with pile caps for the car parking facilities (10,000 covered car parking spaces) and the department stores all installed and ready for the next stage of construction. 

Aldar Properties, currently in merger talks with Sorouh Real Estate, reported a second quarter net profit of Dh417.9 million compared with Dh127.3m same period last year. Revenue for the quarter was Dh4.6 billion compared with Dh775.7m.
