The Abu Dhabi Education Council (Adec) announced that enrolments for new Emirati students and those who are treated alike across Abu Dhabi public schools for the 2016/2017 academic school year will start as of Sunday, February 21 until Thursday March 17. 2016.

The registration period for non-Emirati students will take place from 13th – 17th March, 2016. The announcement came during a press conference held today at ADEC’s HQ.

Mohammad Salem Al Dhaheri, Executive Director of School Operations, said that ADEC adopts an electronic process for enrollments that allow parents to save time and effort,
while minimizing the need to use paper documents.

"Parents need to visit schools once and register their children using a student’s Emirates ID card. The use of ID’s helps feed student data electronically into eSIS without the need to have paper documents," said Mr. Al Dhaheri, adding that it is important for parents to register their children in public schools within the specified period.

Children enrolling for kindergarten (KG) should not be younger than the age of four years old by December 31st 2016, while the requirement for children admission to Grade 1 is for those whose age ranges between six to eight years old on 31 December 2016.

Registration will be processed based on geographical areas and maximum class capacity approved by ADEC (a maximum number of 23 students for KG, 25 students for primary classes and 30 students for secondary education classes).

Categories of students to be enrolled in Public KGs include UAE citizens and children of UAE mother holders of family book, while those to be enrolled in grades 1 to 12 include UAE citizens, children of UAE mother holders of family book, holders of diplomatic ID cards issued by UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, orphans sponsored by a UAE citizen provided that the sponsor and the guardian is the same person and non-Emirati students as per the applicable laws and regulations.

For schools with the maximum student capacity, parents have to register their children online using Emirates ID to add them to the eSIS waiting list. Waiting lists that are not on the eSIS shall be rejected. Students from other public schools, private schools or technical institutes willing to transfer to ADEC schools shall reserve a seat for the school year online or register in eSIS waiting lists.

The enrolment of non-Emirati top achieving students at ADEC schools (G1 – G12) can be carried out by logging onto ADEC’s website www.adec.ac.ae and register online during the period Sunday 13/3/2016 until Thursday 17/3/2016.
