Abu Dhabi traffic police have invited more than 5,000 people for a lecture on road safety and nearly 50,000 to take part in a traffic safety painting contest in the hope such a campaign will find its way into Guinness book of records.

The emirate’s traffic and patrols directorate and the newly-created Saeed traffic police have already contacted Guinness for information on what they expect to be the world’s largest traffic awareness campaign on a single day.

“We are targeting Guinness with this campaign as the largest single traffic awareness campaign in the world,” the directorate’s director Brigadier Hussein al Harthi said, quoted by the Arabic language daily Albayan.

“We have officially applied to Guinness to record this achievement in terms of the number of targeted people and paintings in the contest.”
