Accident in Sharjah? Why police advise not calling your friend first

What should a driver do first if his/her vehicle has an accident in Sharjah?

And how can he safeguard his right to compensation by the insurance company?

An official of Sharjah Police’s Department of Public Relations and Media urged drivers involved in road accidents to quickly contact the police operations room from their personal mobile phone and not from a friend’s or anyone else’s phone.

She said the arrival of the police at the scene of the accident could be delayed if parties not involved in the accident are reporting it to the operations room because the police sometimes find it difficult to contact the parties to the incident.

The police official said errors in the accident report could make the insurance company refuse to bear the cost of repairing the vehicle.

That is why Sharjah Police has created technical support units in the West and Industrial Zone stations to help correct errors in accident reports, she said.

Hassan Abdullah, Director of Operations, urged drivers involved in accidents to contact either of the two technical support units which can correct the errors within 24 hours if the request is valid.

Hassan said in one case, an insurance company had initially refused to bear the cost of repairing a damaged vehicle because of an error in the accident report. The vehicle’s owner then approached Sharjah Police’s public relations department which solved the problem by correcting the accident report.

Colonel Sultan Abdullah of Sharjah Police’s public relations department praised the role played police patrols in following up minor accidents. He also praised the setting up of two technical support units for correcting errors in accident reports.
