Update: A traffic accident involving a truck and several cars has been reported around 9.30am on Al Hadiqa Street, heading in the direction of Al Safa Park. Eye-witness S Sreenath said: “The accident has occurred right after you get off Al Khail Road to connect on to Al Hadiqa Street, just opposite Dubai Bowling Centre.

“A truck and several cars were involved in the crash, with Dubai Police and several ambulances already on the scene. It appeared someone was injured and seated in the ambulance.”

Residents are reporting being caught in jams lasting over an hour on average into the third week of schools re-opening across Dubai.

Sharjah hasn’t fared any better with this morning seeing an accident on Emirates Road, southbound just after the Route 88 junction. Traffic was reportedly backed up for about 4km, according to reports.

Julia Robertson wrote: “After more than an hour on the bus, we are still stuck in traffic. Somewhere near Sharjah University City.”

Those re-routing to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road also have to face heavy traffic congestion, which starts at the National Paints interchange, heading into Dubai.

The stretch from Expo Centre Sharjah to Al Mulla Plaza has people stating they are averaging speeds of 10kmph.

If you have crossed Al Garhoud Bridge and are heading down Sheikh Rashid Road, then be prepared to face a gridlock at the Sana signal, attempting to take the left onto Sheikh Zayed Road.

Further down near the Al Ain highway, residents of Dubai Silicon Oasis were also reporting up to 30-minute delays exiting the community to reach either Route 66 or the Academic City road.

Meanwhile, the opening of the Kings’ School Nad Al Sheba on September 14 and the Kings’ School Al Barsha today has added more strain to traffic in both areas, with reports of congestion near both properties.

Neighbouring Hessa Street is reportedly facing yet another gridlock this morning, while across the highway, Dubai Marina and the Jumeirah Beach Residences have not fared better either.

Stuart Halstead tweeted: “JBR traffic… Can't even leave my car park.”
