Accidents cause Sheikh Zayed Rd snarl-up

Multiple accidents innvolving more than a dozen vehicles on Sheikh Zayed Road affected traffic movement with motorists driving home for the New Year weekend caught in the snarl.

While no details were immediately available on the casualties, an eyewitness told Emirates 24|7 that he saw a police rescue helicopter airlifting the injured.
According to eyewitnesses the accidents in a span of a kilometre happened close to the Dubai-Abu Dhabi border in the Dubai direction around 3:30pm.

While the exact number of vehicles involved in the accidents is not clear, eyewitnesses confirmed the incident that led to a major traffic jam.
 
“We could see police rescue helicopter airlifting the injured,” said Nitish GK.

According to him there were three different accidents within a span of one kilometre each involving four to five vehicles. “The first accident involved a salon car and three other vehicles. The saloon car has been badly damaged,” he said.

“About half a kilometre before the first accident there was another minor accident involving three to four other vehicles. Just before that was yet another accident involving a Dubai taxi vehicle and four other vehicles. The taxi too has been badly damaged,” he added.

According to him, the traffic stretched to more than three kilometres. “We were stuck there for more than half an hour,” he added.
