Ad firms told to remove generators to operate billboards

Dubai Municipality has asked all the advertising firms to remove diesel generators used to operate advertisement billboards which cause harm to the environment.

“Diesel-powered generators pose a threat to our environment. Moreover, it distorts the overall good appearance of the city,” said Yusuf Abdullah, Acting Director, Building Department with Dubai Municipality.

He said advertising companies can use electricity for this purpose. Building department will soon issue urgent order to companies to apply for electricity meters to lighten up billboards.

Companies can send their application through e-service system or by contacting through buildings@dm.gov.ae.

After examining their applications, DM shall issue the consent and send it to Dewa to fix the meters and set the connections.

Yusuf said this new move is part of Dubai’s strategic plan to become a green and sustainable City.
