Dubai Civil Defence has denied issuing statements that have surfaced on social media, claiming The Address Downtown Hotel was not compliant with international safety standards.

The news comes even as investigations continue into the cause of the blaze that broke out on New Year’s Eve in the Downtown Dubai property.

In a statement to the media, DCD’s Major General Rashid Thani Al Matrooshi, Director General of Dubai Civil Defence, said several media sites have published a false statement, which has been attributed to Lt Colonel Gamal Ahmed Ibrahim, Director of Preventive Safety Department.

Al Matrooshi said the false statement quotes Ibrahim as saying, ‘The Address Downtown Hotel facade is not in compliance with specifications’.

DCD asserted this was ‘absolutely wrong’ and reassured buildings in Dubai were compliant with the Emirates Fire and Life Safety Code, meeting international safety standards, which has been approved by the authorities.

Al Matrooshi further stated audiovisual media was urged to verify news before they publishing it.
