Adulterer defies court in name of love

A 19-year-old girl who has been sentenced to six months in jail in Abu Dhabi for getting pregnant after committing adultery is defying court by threatening not to leave prison unless she marries her boyfriend.

The girl has already served nearly half the jail term but is adamant in refusing to rejoin her family once she is released, saying her father is planning to deport her boyfriend who has been sentenced to one year in prison.

“The girl said she would not leave prison unless she is taken to the house of the man who she loves and who is the father of the baby she is pregnant with,” the Dubai-based Arabic language daily 'Al Bayan' said on Tuesday.

“She is threatening that she will never return to her family, who she blames for what has happened to her because of their refusal to marry her to that man.”

The paper did not identify the girl and her lover but quoted her as saying the baby is expected to see life after four months.

It said the girl had been forced by her father to marry another man before she pushed him to divorce her so she can marry her boy friend.

Her lover, who was also sentenced to 100 lashes, had told court that he insists on marrying his girlfriend so they can bring up their own baby.

“The man told court that his girl friend’s father had rejected him because he is of a different nationality…he is now asking court to help him to marry her,” 'Al Bayan' said without identifying the man either.
