A spate of thefts at Dubai International Airport baggage handling section has led investigators to an office boy at the Dubai Customs who made away with a few shields and a picture of a female employee.

According to a case that came up for hearing at the Dubai Criminal Court, the office boy stole the picture since he fell for the woman's looks.

The 37-year-old Bangladeshi national, identified as JRA, confessed to police about the thefts but insisted he forgot to return the shields he had pocketed.

He even claimed to have told his senior who asked him to return the stuff. But investigators found them to be lies, the court was told.

While searching at his accomodation, police found the lady's picture in his wallet. He confessed to have removed the picture from an office file at Dubai Customs.

Obaid Khalfan, a policeman at the airport's security control department testified that increasing complaints about thefts from passengers' luggage had led to increased surveillance in the baggage handling areas.

Subsequently, two employees of a private security firm Group 4 Falak were caught for stealing from passengers' baggage.

It was one of them who led investigators to the office boy who later revealed details of others involved in the racket.

According to the office boy, a 28-year-old porter SKS bought a mobile phone from a colleague SFM knowing that it was stolen from a luggage that passed through the airport.

The case was adjourned till September 20.
