Al Fahidi souq ready by next year

Architecture of the marketplace will reflect UAE's rich heritage

Al Fahidi market in Bur Dubai will be completed by next year-end, according to Dubai Municipality.

Sabria Ayub, Head of investment market of Dubai Municipality, said: “Al Fahidi market scheduled to be completed by end-2012, will meet the needs of Bur Dubai residents and will enhance Dubai's position as a tourist destination."

The idea for this market stemmed from the success of Naif Souq. The municipality forsees similar popularity for Al Fahidi market, too, once it begins operations. The market will include shops that sell perfumes, clothes and electronics among a host of other items.

The architecture of the marketplace will reflect UAE's rich heritage, she said and added that it will complement the surroundings of Bur Dubai.

Sabrina Ayub said the municipality plans to establish several such markets to meet the increasing needs of the community and enhance the emirate's position as a shopping and entertainment destination in the region.
