In line with instructions given by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and close follow up of General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, the Al Salam Street and Tunnel name was changed to the Sheikh Zayed Street and Sheikh Zayed Tunnel in memory of the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Sheikh Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, National Security Advisor, and Deputy Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Council, announced the kind gesture while he inaugurated the Al Salaam Tunnel as part of the UAE's 41st national day celebrations.

Sheikh Hazza said the strategic development carries the name of the founding father, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, to underscore  “Our pride of what he had achieved and in tribute of his far-sighted vision, which we are today reaping its fruit in the form of progress in all walks of our life.''

The inclusive development in Abu Dhabi, he added, should be synchronised with availability of world-class infrastructure capable of accommodating the scale of the economic, tourist and industrial renaissance in line with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, which seeks to position Abu Dhabi as a world business hub and a gateway for world trade towards the region.

Sheikh Hazza said the vision of the leadership for Abu Dhabi future is sky's the limit and ''We should all toil within that framework and measure up to the vision of our leadership to establish Abu Dhabi as a cosmopolitan city for modernisation and progress while safeguarding indigenous heritage.''

The Al Salaam Street Development, he noted, is the most strategic artery in improving vehicular flow in the capital.

He stressed the opening the Sheikh Zayed Tunnel demonstrated Abu Dhabi government's commitment to improve quality of services and provide a state-of-the-art road network that forms a vital facilitating factor for economic development. Wam
