Amazon is the latest entrant to target the smartphone market and like all entrants, is planning an all-new smartphone aimed at beating Apple’s iPhone.

The online shopping giant that introduced Kindle Fire, considered a worthy low-end alternate to Apple’s iPad, is believed to be now working with Foxconn - that also manufactures Apple’s gadgets – to produce its own smartphone.

Although the exact specifications of the phone are not yet available, a Bloomberg report quoting “two people with knowledge of the matter,” says the phones will be Android based.

The report also adds that the Amazon is seeking to acquire a range of smartphone-related patents to protect itself from infringements.

Meanwhile, there are also reports emerging that Amazon is also working on releasing  the next version of its successful Kindle Fire.

According to AllThingsD the new device will arrive will be much slimmer, have a better display and could become available in the market by September end.

With its very strong hold on online sales and marketing, an Amazon phone will no doubt add to Apple’s growing worries.

Amazon has already made its intentions pretty clear and plans to take on not just Apple but Google as well.

An inbuilt app store and media delivery system that it developed for Kindle kept ensured its users had no need for Google Play.
