An Italian who was found last August on the beach opposite the Palm Islands in Dubai in a severely fatigued condition and suffering from amnesia will now return home as he has regained his memory.

Dubai Police will pay all costs of his journey home, reported 'Gulf Today'.

All these months he was under the care of specialists of Al Amal Hospital. On April 12, he remembered his name and told officials that he had come to Dubai on visit visa.

"When Andre Pecora was found last year he was unable to tell us anything useful. He was then examined by a psychiatrist, who confirmed that he was suffering from amnesia," Lieutenant Colonel Ahmad Al Merri, Director, CID, Dubai Police, said.

Authorities had placed his photograph in local dailies and sent his fingerprints and DNA samples to the Interpol, but got no lead.

Colonel Al Merri said the police made sure that he has no local or international criminal record and took good care of him until he recovered his memory.

Brigadier Khalil Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Director, CID, honoured him in a

simple ceremony attended by a representative from the Italian Consulate

and Pecora’s brother, who came to Dubai for him.
