The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) will hold its annual health screening and awareness programme for workers.

The initiative, in its fourth year, will take place across labour camps and work-sites in Dubai.

Dr Shamsa Abdulla Bin Hammad, Head of Community Health Services Program Section in DHA’s Primary Healthcare Sector said the initiative is a comprehensive health campaign that looks into the social, psychosocial and medical needs of workers.

“It includes free dental and medical check-ups such as blood pressure, blood sugar, blood cholesterol, and body mass index (BMI).  Health educators will explain to workers the complications of heat stress and other heat related disorders.

“They will be educated about ways to protect themselves from dehydration and the harmful effects of the sun. Besides this, we will also educate them about diabetes and other non-communicable diseases.”

Bin Hammad said psychologists will also educate workers about the connection between psychological and physical health and ways to have a happy mind and body.

This year, DHA is also organising free hair-cuts for labourers during these campaigns. Bin Hammad said: “We work with many volunteers and they recommended that in addition to distribution of free health kits, workers would appreciate getting a free hair-cut. We have incorporated their suggestion this year.”

The Authority will also distribute free dental kits to the labourers.
